Thomas J. Cable serves as Lead Independent Director of the Company. He has served on our board of directors since January 1995. He has also served on our audit committee since January 1995 and on our compensation committee since December 2007. In addition, Mr. Cable has served as chairman of our nominating and governance committee since September 2009. Mr. Cable is the vice chairman of the board of the Washington Research Foundation, a technology transfer and early stage venture capital organization affiliated with the University of Washington, which he co-founded in 1980. Mr. Cable also founded Cable & Howse Ventures, a venture capital firm, and Cable, Howse & Ragen, an investment banking firm, and co-founded Montgomery Securities, an investment banking firm acquired by Bank of America. A former U.S. Navy submarine officer, Mr. Cable received his M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and his B.A. from Harvard University. Our nominating and governance committee has concluded that Mr. Cable should continue to serve on the board of directors based on his knowledge and experience in finance, investment banking, technology development and product commercialization, as well as his knowledge of Omeros and our industry.
